WHAT PEOPLE THINK ETHICAL ISSUES IN AI ARE: wow.... we're creating... new life........

WHAT ETHICAL ISSUES IN AI ACTUALLY ARE: techbros worshiping the almighty algorithm, not caring to look at what bad patterns the machines are picking up (racism, sexism, etc) and how to avert them, and overreliance on neural networks meaning that said algorithms are treated as magical black boxes where nobody wants to (or can, really) point out exactly how the equation works (and why it may be faulty)

Hungary, Voting, -

Itʼs election day in Hungary and many, home and abroad, voiced their fear that this election is rigged/not clean. The voting urns looking like a trashcan doesnʼt help, either…

8yo writing their homework during the weekend.

5yo: donʼt play while youʼre learning!
8yo: when youʼre going to go to school, iʼll tell you the same. When youʼre going to go to school, your life will be as tough as mine.

Tomorrow is election day in Hungary. Wish us luck.

I’m looking for something as native as possible, ie. i don’t want to use big frameworks like GTK or Qt. The main reason here is that this way i can understand the protocol better. Another one is that the app i intend to create on the long run should be as small as possible without depending on any big library as i want to run it on a small SBC.

Any + gurus out there? I’m looking for help on making a Wayland application that creates a modal(ish), decoration-less window like wldash ( does and paint stuff on it (or maybe render SVG and paint that). However, both Rust and Wayland is pretty new to me, so i can’t make anything out of wldash’s code as of yet.

Hey fedifolks, i need a small to run a graphical app (which is not resource heavy in any way). What would you suggest if Raspberries are out of the question?

A friend i wanted to call to greet her on her birthday just called and said “hey, how are you? I have a birthday doday!” before i could even say “hello”…

Hungary, politics, -

My daughter had a dream that the very stingy owner of the electricity company painted our windows black so we have to use much more electricity and thus pay more. Which is funny because i have this same weird feeling since general utility providers are in the hands of government friendly oligarchs.

I finally had time to test my new tablet. I’m not particularly happy with the shadow, but overall i like it; especially since i haven’t painted in like a decade and i never really learned it in a school or by myself.

May or may not be inspired by the Ukrainian conflict; i realised it might be the case well after i finished it.

Anyone know how to get out of #Ukraine? I hear there are no flights or trains. Perhaps private shuttle buses or something like that?

Specifically interested in getting from Kropyvnytskyi (Кропивни́цький) to the EU (or at least further west) somehow.

Asking for a family member.

Boosts appreciated.

Random work/tech rant

Fixed a bug at $job that made our service less reliable for over a week. The documentation was good, we even compared the code with the documentation during a 2-hour session, but a single missing SQL “filter” just evaded us. For 3. Freaking. Weeks. It was hell of a ride but now iʼm finally happy.

Dear everyone who registered an account on (most probably to follow development of now half-dead @calendar_social)! The site recently got a *lot* of spam registrations and spam comments (~2000 accounts and ~1000 comments). So i have deleted all accounts that have never signed in other than registering. If you had one and now you can’t access it, i’m terribly sorry.

@davidrevoy just showed your recent studies on your blog to my daughter (8)and she asked me to ask you to teach her paint. Then she got a bit sad when she learned that you probably donʼt speak Hungarian. Anyway, one more fan to your art 😉

“ What using RSS feeds feels like”

This. Reading through my feed reader in the morning, with a cup of coffee in my hand and toast on the plate, is one of the quiet joys of my life.

Todayʼs wordle is a bitch. Even if you get the last 4 letters right you have plenty of choices for the first one 😔

Reading about Google dropping support for the Pixel 3 phone after 3 years - no more OS updates - and it just reminded me of when Linux dropped support for the 386.

After 21 years.

486 is still supported.
