Vaccination, hunpol-

Here in Hungary, if you get your first shot you get a card within a week or two, which proves “you are protected”.

Now they made a decision that as soon as 40% of the population gets their card, we can start holding sports events, and people with cards can attend without a mask.

Because, fuck logic. And preventive measures. And people, too, because Hungarian politicians no longer need their voter base, apparently.

Pijul has a command called `credit` which does on Pijul repos exactly what `git blame` does for Git, but with a much better name.

If you want to contribute to #orgmode (#emacs) with a useful, easy (and yes, a bit boring) task, we are looking for someone to take charge of reproducing bugs 🐞 reported to the list:

As it turned out i used an incompatible version of paperclip.

Big thanks to the folks on IRC for helping me fix this!

She froze, staring at the eyes that had appeared behind the sink overflow.

"Oops!" It squeaked. "You weren't supposed to see me."

"W-what are you?" She stammered.

"Rude! But you're new here. Previous owner was kind to us, we look after the place. I'm unclogging your drain."

She thought about the myriad ways her life had improved since moving here; things always where she looked for them, light bulbs that never broke, cupboards that were always clean.

"Huh."

"I need a spell to make my boss notice me," the customer twitched, looking around the store, over the counter, anywhere but at her. "I work hard, need a raise. I'm broke. I'm told you take favours?"

"I do," She curled a wicked smile.

"I guess I have no choice. What'll it be?"

"Do my grocery shopping for me? I just haven't had time this week."

"Oh," he relaxed a little. "Oh. Is that all?"

"Pick up a parcel for me too and I'll throw in a free luck charm."

mastodon admin, question

I can’t follow anyone from a differente instance, as my instance (installed on bare metal, not in Docker) misses a file Errno::ENOENT […] /tmp/937adac946ed080018137621cbd0951a20210424-940991-1uncuc6.jpg)

I already tried assets:precompile and even cache clear, but to no avail. I’m running 3.3.0 from the v3.3.0 tag.

Any ideas what to do?

Couple of hours messing around in LMMS, made a jaunty lil' tune. Give it a listen! It makes me happy :D

May expand on it tomorrow and make it a bit longer. :)

COVID Vaccination

“Comirnaty”. I guess that was autocorrected, because obviously it was.

COVID Vaccination

I got the first dose (dose? Jab? Shot? Wtatʼs the correct term here?) of Pfizer “Comernity” vaccine. After 4 hours it feels like a light tetanus vaccine, but nothing else yet.

I read many times recently that X, Inc. did a mistake in an area, but immediately took countermeasures. Then, after a few days (or during the actual incident) the responsible C-suite gets fired or resigns, and/or the person (or the whole team) who erred gets fired, too. Is that really necessary?

A company makes a mistake, but also makes the necessary correction steps ASAP. Who should resign/be fired?

New #blogpost: “Misinformation about Permissions Policy and FLoC”.

Lots of people have been spreading the often-unnecessary advice to add a Permissions-Policy response header to their sites, and some have been going so far as to ask FLOSS maintainers to patch their software to make this the default.

If you read the actual proposals and W3C specs, you’ll find a different story.

Everybody: please calm down, take a deep breath, and read before you make such prescriptive advice.

FLoC is terrible, but telling everyone to add a magic “opt-out header” in every situation conveys a misunderstanding of everything you need to know about the opt-in/out process.

Last night’s makerspace project was a laser cut insert to organise my portable soldering kit with Pinecil and SuperTank USB-C battery. #tinkering

Tech, ~

I canʼt believe i lived to a day when Microsoft publishes their own browser as a native Linux application.

Next challenge: will they open source it? At least in a way Google does with Chromium?

Software dev, rant

I love tests that succeed on their own but fail when i run the whole test suite. Said no programmer ever.

tech, law, morality; ~

How funny is it that Elastic blames Amazon on why they close-sourced ElasticSearch (elastic.co/blog/why-license-ch), yet it’s Amazon who came up with an open source licensed alternative (github.com/opensearch-project/)? It’s also funny how i can do and don’t understand both sides from a business perspective (let’s just not dive into the personal, legal, and moral parts).

Hungarian Low/Politics, -

I just realized how i mistyped Law as Low, and that it still fits…

According to the “family friendly” laws of Hungary, when you are on sick leave, you get 70% of your salary. Except when you are on sick leave with your kid; then it’s 50%.
